Books da Gata: Shift, Staci Hart

Even the gods cannot betray the will of the stars. It’s been a hundred years since she’s warmed my bed, a hundred years spent waiting for her. Now we’ll compete again in a game that matters little to me. But my prize is far greater than a token to be paid for a favor — I want her. And for the first time in a very long time, I have the chance to keep her. Because now the ground has shifted, tilted in my favor, and with her footing unsteady, she will fall. I will catch her. This time, I won’t let go.

Staci Hart simply have overcome in this book... I have no other word that can define the greatness that is Shift . If in the previous book I was confused by all the necessary explanations, going back and forth from the past to the present, and from New York to Olympus to understand the whole series, in this one the action flowed in a electrifying and frenetic rhythm.

The game of the gods now involved not only the competition to know who would win the token between Ares, the god of war, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and Ares’ great love. The game now involved strength and power, control and submission as well as the awakening about the Truth that came to the fore with all its force over Adonis's death.

In this new chapter of the Hearts and Arrows series, the story continues on Olympus and the pieces of the time will be Dillon and Kat, both loyal to their siblings and super protectives.

Dillon is a boxer who holds a beast inside himself and is capable of anything to protect Owen, his younger brother. He just did not expect that by finding Kat, his dilemmas and his demons would be tested to the limit of the impossible.

Kat is a strong woman with her own demons that will discover her way to happiness.

The plot has been very well built and the tension from the front pages to the end is breathtaking. I was anxious and distressed at every step, every piece set to cause chaos and every fight.

Aphrodite knows love — just don’t ask her to figure out her own mess.
Rather than deal with her sticky love life, she toys with the hearts of unwitting humans. It’s a little game she plays, and the stakes are high. Lucky for her, she’s just found the perfect match.
Lex is everything Dean needs, but he can’t have her.
It doesn’t matter that her eyes speak to a long forgotten part of him, or that her art and poetry touch his shredded heart. She’s off limits — crossing that line would implode his band and everything he’s ever cared about. There’s only one option: stay away from her, no matter the cost. Even if the price is his heart.
Dean is everything Lex wants, but she can’t take the risk.
The second she meets him, she knows her heart is in danger. She’s convinced it’s only attraction that has her hung up on the dark, quiet lead singer, but with every day that passes, she knows it’s more. It’s just that she can’t put her heart on the line. She won’t — love has never been worth the sacrifice.
If only they knew they were just pawns in a much bigger game. And in the game of love, Aphrodite never loses.

Bringing back the fascinating narratives of Greek mythology and inspired by Shakespeare's poem, Venus and Adonis, Staci Hart creates a plot full of romanticism where the gods dwell in a modern Olympus and continue to challenge each other in their little games with humans.

In the first volume of the series, Aphrodite is challenged by Apollo in the game of love, a game in which she never lost but which Apollo needs to win if he wants to see his great and old desire realized.

Lex is a normal girl who works in a bookstore and who despite wanting to love after seeing her mother suffer a lot in the past decided that she would never let this feeling take over her heart.

Dean is a quiet, totally broken guy who always wrote poems and with the help of his best friend and fellow bandmate Roe, he became a musician and is about to record their first CD when an unexpected situation puts him in a bad mood. The guy is the sin in person and to complete does not know how to say No when any girl insinuates herself to him, compromised or not. Because of this he always gets into trouble, only this time he can not risk anything much less the success of the band, so he will have to learn how to say No.
